Maureen Burford
Collaborative Piano
Maureen Burford is a pianist, violinist, music educator, and longtime collaborative musician with more than 40 years of professional performing and teaching experience. She earned her B.A. in Music from Cornell University, where she studied piano with Malcolm Bilson, won the 1984 concerto competition as a pianist, and served as principal second violin of the Cornell Symphony Orchestra.
As a pianist and violinist, Maureen has performed with ensembles and musicians throughout New England and beyond, including the Cornell, Brandeis, and MIT Symphonies, The Pioneer Valley Five College Orchestra, Arcadia Players Baroque Orchestra, Smith College Vocal Department, and the Shakuhachi Society of Hokkaido, Japan. She also served for many years as accompanist and multi-instrumentalist with the Thetford Chamber Singers and currently serves on the music team for the Thetford Hill Congregational Church.
From 2004 to 2016, Maureen was Artistic Director of Revels North in Hanover, New Hampshire, where she directed large-scale productions at Dartmouth College and collaborated with musicians, dancers, actors, and tradition-bearers from the United States and abroad. Her work has included classical, traditional, choral, theatrical, and improvisational music, as well as arranging and composing. Her original compositions have been performed and recorded by ensembles and artists throughout the East Coast; her work The Mountain Speaks was selected by jury for performance at Smith College’s Festival of Women in Music.
