Online Learning at UVMC
UVMC launched into online programming in March 2020. Our initial effort was so successful that 98% of students in lessons and classes continued in the online format. We have also learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t, and we used that knowledge to design our fully-online programs during the 2020-21 season. UVMC will continue to take advantage of the benefits of online learning while working to prioritize in-person gatherings whenever health conditions allow.
Online Learning Resources for Students
I’m very appreciative of UVMC and yourself for deciding to offer the [online] Summer music camp. I especially appreciate that you provided content tailored to each student, while simultaneously keeping everyone busy. I can appreciate the level of effort and planning that it must have taken to implement this program. It was great that they had a production at the end of the camp to be able to present to parents. The camp provided a great opportunity for [my child] to interact with musical peers.

Is online the same as in-person?
Online and in-person classes are different, and each offers unique benefits. We are very much looking forward to the option to return to in-person activities when possible, but in the meantime, there are many valuable things to be gained from online programs (so much so, that online programs are likely to continue alongside in-person programs in the future).

What are supplemental in-person activities?
There are some things that we just can’t do online, like play a duet in real time. Supplemental in-person activities will be custom designed to augment online programs, in low-risk conditions for small group gatherings. For example, you might prepare your own part during online lessons and then meet in-person for a ‘duet day’ to try the duet live. Specifics will vary by teacher and class.
