Beginning Fiddle

Tuesdays 6-7 pm
Spring 2024: January 30-May 7
Fall 2023: September 12 -December 5 (Part 1)
Fiddle students listening to a new tune.

Always wanted to play the fiddle? In this zero to toe-tapping class we’ll start with the very basics: how to hold the fiddle and bow with clean, relaxed technique that fits your body, how to “hear” and remember a tune. We’ll progress using classic melodies from the Irish, Old Time, New England and French Canadian
traditions, and explore how to find and join a jam session or just play for your own joy at home. Written music will be available; recording device highly recommended.

Fall will be Part 1 and Spring will be Part 2 of this beginner course. Wondering which class is right for you? Complete our New Student Inquiry Form, and we’ll follow up with placement information.

Week 1 is “Boot Camp:” refresher for what was covered in fall, catch-up session for people who are joining at the midpoint. Optional class for those who were enrolled in fall.

Ages: Adults
Length: 12 weeks, 1 hour classes
Cost: $210
Minimum Enrollment: 4
Faculty: Amy Cann
