Want to sing? Community Chorus at UVMC is open to everyone!

If you don’t think you can sing, Annie Arrington is sure you can.

“My favorite people to work with are people who think they can’t sing,” said Arrington, Choral Director of the Community Chorus at Upper Valley Music Center. “If you can talk, you can sing — and I can teach you.”

The Community Chorus at UVMC, now open for registration for the 2024-25 fall season, starts rehearsals on Tuesday, September 10. There are two rehearsal options — 6 to 7:30 pm on Tuesday in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and 10 to 11:30 am on Thursday in Norwich, Vermont. The two chorus sections meet weekly to rehearse, and both sections meet for dress rehearsals and performances throughout the year. A community concert in November ends the fall session.

The Community Chorus at UVMC offers a welcoming space where singers of all abilities can enjoy the art of choral singing in a fun choral community. No audition is required. Members are not required to read music — some do, some don’t — and Arrington offers practice tracks and mini-classes before each rehearsal if members want to learn how to read music or work on vocal technique.

“It’s a safe place to develop your singing voice,” Arrington said. “The mini-classes provide an extra boost for those who want it.”

Arrington has held a variety of teaching, conducting, and leadership positions over the years, including high school and church choir, private voice and piano, and small business administration. She is also a choral composer, songwriter, and avid researcher of the singing voice.

“Annie joined the Community Chorus at UVMC in 2022 and has been instrumental in its growth,” said Ben Van Vliet, Executive Director of UVMC. “Her enthusiasm and supportive style of teaching has created a welcoming, inclusive chorus.”

“Singing will help your life, your confidence, and help you heal,” Arrington said. “Come one, come all.”

It is $100 to join the fall session of the Community Chorus at UVMC. Tuition Assistance is available. Learn more at https://uvmusic.org/news/classes/community-chorus-at-uvmc
