Refresh Your Skills with UVMC at a ‘Technique Tune Up’ Workshop this Summer!

Do you have an old instrument in a case, calling to you as it gathers dust in the corner of a closet? Perhaps you took lessons as a young person, but you’ve fallen out of practice and you’re looking to reconnect with your inner musician.

If you’re looking to refresh your musical skills this summer, the Tune Up program at Upper Valley Music Center is for you. Launched earlier this year, the program was developed as part of UVMC’s 30th Anniversary investment in musical community. The three parts of the program, Instrument and Technique Tune Up workshops and Tune Up Lessons, are designed to help people start music making again or to stay connected with their musical home.

Technique Tune Up workshops are designed for those who have played or sung in the past and could use a refresher to get going again. UVMC faculty will review the fundamentals of technique for playing or singing to help people build confidence and refresh their memory. The first two Technique Tune Up workshops will focus on singing and piano. 

UVMC Voice Faculty member Jennifer Pomeroy will lead the voice workshop on Sunday, June 28. This workshop will include a discussion of breathing techniques, an exploration of resonance, shaping sound using embouchure, and diction. 

The piano workshop will be led by UVMC piano faculty member Chenyu Wang on Wednesday, July 15. Chenyu will discuss how to approach practice, and get you playing comfortably without tension or stress!

Technique Tune Up workshops are free and open to anyone in the community, but require advanced registration because space is limited. Participants can register online at uvmusic.org or contact the office.

The Upper Valley Music Center is a non-profit community music school based in Lebanon, NH, serving more than 2,000 adults and children a year from across the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire. UVMC’s expert faculty work with beginning through advanced students and teach programs designed for ages birth through adulthood. Founded in 1995, UVMC’s programs have expanded to include early childhood music, Suzuki and traditional lessons on a variety of instruments, group classes, and ensemble opportunities.
