Introduction to Jazz Improvisation
Spring 2025: February 6-May 8
If you have ever wondered what it might be like to improvise on your instrument but are intimidated by the prospect of expressing yourself in a spontaneous setting, this course is for you. This class is designed for anyone with a basic knowledge of chords and scales and is open to any instrument. Together we’ll explore the basics of improvisation, focusing on three areas: the blues scale, the chromatic scale, and three note chords called triads. You will be amazed by what you can do with these very simple yet profound harmonic structures. All materials are in concert, Bb and Eb, and TAB for guitar and bass.
