Upper Valley Music Center Launches Flute Choir
Upper Valley Music Center, a community music school located in Lebanon, New Hampshire, announces a Flute Choir to bring flutists together for ensemble experience.
“The Flute Choir is a chance for folks to get to know others who play the same instrument and play music arranged specifically for that voice,” said Erin Smith, Education Director at UVMC.
UVMC’s new Flute Choir will explore diverse music written and arranged for flute choir, pulling from classical, contemporary, jazz, and popular sources. The mixed-level ensemble will rehearse together every Wednesday for eight weeks to prepare for a fall performance.
The Flute Choir, which includes the traditional flute as well as other members of the flute family of instruments, is led by Faith Goodness, who teaches flute, clarinet, and saxophone at UVMC.
“Flute parts tend to be limited in traditional ensembles — think band, orchestra,” Goodness said. “With flute choir, you get not only the amazing sound of flute but you can experience full voicing, SATB-style. I also love that flute choir music uses some of the ‘big flutes’: alto flute, bass flute. I have been lucky to coach and perform in flute choirs, and it is truly an amazing experience.”
An open rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, October 9 from 5:30 to 6:15 pm. Teens and adults are welcome to stop by the First Congregational Church of Lebanon’s Parish Hall on 10 South Park Street to learn more about UVMC’s newest ensemble.
“As a community music school, we are all about bringing people to make music together, providing high quality instruction and a welcoming, supportive environment to learn and play,” Smith said. “The Flute Choir is open to multiple levels, so whether you’re coming with basic flute skills or years of experience, there’s a place for you.”
