Music Together®: Mixed-Age

Spring 2022: April 4 - June 13
Tuesdays 9:30 or 10:30 am, Thursdays 4 pm, or Friday 10:30 am
A family enjoys music class with young children.

UVMC is committed to making music education accessible for as many families as possible. For Music Together classes, UVMC offers class in multiple formats including online, outdoors, and indoors, as well as access to tuition assistance. See below for details.

Each week in Music Together® Mixed-Age Classes, babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and the grownups who love them gather for 45 minutes of fun-filled family music time. Your teacher will lead you and the other families in music activities ranging from lullabies to full-on jam sessions (with child-friendly instruments, of course!). It’s so much fun you won’t realize how much learning is taking place!

You’ll take home the award-winning music used in class, along with an illustrated songbook and other resources. As you discover new ways to play with music all week long, you’ll be supporting your child’s music-learning and overall development—even if you don’t think of yourself as a great singer or dancer.

Three Class Formats

In our Spring 2022 term, UVMC will offer three options for families to choose from:

*This class has been cancelled for the Spring term. Monday classes with Brooke will be 10 weeks long, starting the week of April 4, and offered online via Zoom. Materials will be mailed to families (unless you wish to pick up at UVMC), and activities are adapted to work in a digital format while still being developmentally appropriate for little ones. Class size is limited to maintain a sense of community among families, teachers, and children.

Tuesday and Friday classes with Miss Katie and Lisa will be 8 weeks long, starting the week of April 19. Class will be offered outdoors primarily. In the case of inclement weather, class will be offered online. Masks will be optional outdoors, and social distancing encouraged. Families should bring a blanket to sit on, and dress for the weather!

Thursday class with Miss Erin will be 10 weeks long, starting April 7. Class will be offered indoors to start, and may move outdoors if weather permits. In case of inclement weather, class will be offered indoors at UVMC. Masks will be required for everyone ages 2+ indoors, and optional outdoors. Social distancing encouraged, and enrollment limited to allow for distancing inside the classroom.

Policies Detailed health policies can be found on our COVID-19 page. Please review these and our Registration Policies before enrolling. If you have questions about our policies, please contact Julia Hautaniemi at julia@uvmusic.org.

Why mixed ages?

Child development researchers discovered that grouping children of different ages in one class encourages natural, family-style learning, so Music Together developed the Mixed-Age Music Class. In this class, everyone participates at their own levels: babies vocalize, listen, and observe; toddlers play and experiment; and preschoolers build confidence as they emerge as classroom leaders. Grownups are happy because everyone can come to class together!
