Conversation with Ukrainian Guest Artists

Thursday, April 11,
5:00 pm
to 6:00 pm EDT
Free

UVMC welcomes curator Veronika Yadukha, and composers Albert Saprykin, Boris Loginov, and violinist Orest Smovzh for a presentation and discussion about their creative work. This event is presented in conjunction with a residency and performance of Amadoka at Dartmouth, the US premier of this music based on the novel by Sofia Andrukhovych. Composers Saprykin, Loginov, and Kolomiiets each translated one volume of the novel into music, creating distinct pieces that come together in a singular listening experience and create an immersion into Ukraine’s past and present through music. Yadukha also worked with a Oaxaca-based artist to create three ceramic musical instruments to further translate the novel’s themes in How Text Becomes Clay. In this presentation, the artists will discuss their collaboration on this piece, their individual creative projects, and display the unique ceramic instruments.
