Summer 2021 Tuesday Fiddle Tune Classes
4:15-5:15 pm: kids and teens
Trad Crew, 4:15-5:15 pm: This class is for kids ages 7-17 who already know and love fiddle tunes, or already play an instrument and want to learn fun dance tunes by ear. We’ll learn to play reels and jigs from many traditional styles and to create medleys as we go. Older and more advanced students will develop skills like ornaments and harmonies as well as learning how to lead the band.
Continuing Fiddle Tunes for Adults 6:15-7:15 pm: Are you a fiddler looking to learn the core tune repertoire for playing at contra dances, a violinist wondering how to get that fiddle-y sound, or a chord player who wants to be part of the band? Join this class for advanced beginner to intermediate students to learn tunes and develop the skills and confidence to play along in a sit-in dance band. This class moves at a slower pace so that you can learn Slow Jam favorites phrase-by-phrase, with plenty of time to ask questions and get technique tips.
Notes for both classes:
- Each class will focus on 1-2 tunes, so you can attend just one class or build your sets over the whole summer. You can pick & choose the dates that work for you, or register for the whole summer.
- If you’re choosing the a la carte option, you must register at least 24 hours in advance in order to attend a class. We cannot accommodate drop-ins or last-minute registration.
- Classes will be offered outdoors at UVMC. In case of inclement weather, class will be offered on Zoom.
- We will learn tunes by ear, with sheet music provided as a back-up. Phones/cameras for video/audio recording are recommended.
