DESCRIPTION:Upper Valley Music Center’s Suzuki program presents the annual Suzuki Showcase concert featuring music from across the ocean. This concert features more than 100 students ages 3-18 performing on cello\, viola\, and violin\, plus special guest balafon master Mamadou Diabate as the culmination of an educational residency. The concert will bring together Mamadou Diabate’s tradition of West African music from his home country of Burkina Faso with other world music traditions\, classical repertoire\, and American fiddle tunes. DESCRIPTION:In Technique Tune Up workshops\, UVMC faculty review the fundamentals of technique for playing or singing\, so that you can build confidence and refresh your memory. These workshops are especially for musicians who studied or played at an earlier part of their lives\, but need a refresher to prepare for joining an ensemble or making practice a regular habit again. Technique Tune Up workshops are free and open to the community\, with pre-registration required.  \nThis Singing workshop will be led by Jennifer Pomeroy\, a member of UVMC’s voice faculty. The workshop will include discussion and practical application of breathing techniques\, exploration of resonance and how to make sounds with different qualities\, shaping sound using embouchure\, and diction. Participants will warm up as a group\, integrating the techniques that have been discussed\, and then sing together as a group\, exploring simple and accessible repertoire and practice applying the basics to a song.

Join us in Colburn Park for a celebration of song with this ensemble featuring children grades K-4\, led by Allison Pollard.  \nTraditional New England Barn Dance\, 6-7 pm\nCome celebrate the 250th with traditional dances that have been part of New England communities since colonial days! No experience necessary — all dances will be taught and are accessible to all ages. David Millstone will lead the dancing\, with live music from Upper Valley Music Center musicians.
