DESCRIPTION:Looking for a warm and welcoming space to share your music with other creative people? The Upper Valley Music Center offers the opportunity for songwriters to play music for each other in an encouraging environment. Whether you are a seasoned songwriter or just mustering the courage to sing or play in front of people\, you will be welcomed and listened to here. Composers of songs without words are also welcome to come share their music. This event will be hosted by UVMC Faculty Members including Julie Ness\, Jennifer Pomeroy\,  and others TBA. \nRSVP appreciated but not required. Payment for this program is completely optional\, and gratefully appreciated. Your voluntary contribution to the basket makes it possible for the event to remain free for newcomers & those who are unable to pay. Use the code “dropinfree” to waive payment on drop-ins.

SUMMARY:Ring into Spring! Intro to Handbells Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Explore the fundamentals of handbell ringing in this free workshop at Kilton Library. Members of the Upper Valley Ringers will teach the basic techniques of ringing with a bell choir. Participants will learn how to follow music arranged for this unique instrument and experience the joy of playing a part in the ensemble!  \nNo handbells experience required. Reading music is helpful\, but not required for participation.  \nThis workshop will include a lot of time standing. Please let us know if you need accommodation in order to participate and we can plan accordingly.  \nAges 8 and up – young students who don’t yet read music are encouraged to attend with an adult who can help them follow along.

SUMMARY:Celtic Music Workshop with Kalos
DESCRIPTION:LEARN A TUNE WITH KALOS! Headland\, the title of Kalos’ latest release\, refers to the dreamlike place between the land and the sea\, which Kalos explores through their music. In this workshop\, we will learn a tune and navigate this space together through arrangement. We will start with instruction on melody and backing\, and then join together for discussion and arranging. This workshop will be aimed toward intermediate players but all levels welcome; open to all instruments. \nAbout the Band The trio spans three generations\, three cities and two countries. Ryan McKasson (violin\, viola\, voice)\, Eric McDonald (guitar\, mandolin\, voice) and Jeremiah McLane (accordion\, piano\, voice) met over the years at highland games\, contra dances and fiddle camps across North America. They made their first recording in 2016 and have been touring together since 2019. Kalos prizes the magic of live performance—breathing\, dancing and weaving together like high-wire acrobats. They are as generous as they are virtuosic. Like nature itself\, their music is full of chaos and chance yet always feels spacious and balanced. Their concerts are more an exposé than a performance—they are immersive\, trance-inducing experiences. \nKalos has performed at the Lotus Festival (Bloomington\, IN)\, New Bedford Folk Festival (New Bedford\, MA)\, New World Festival (Randolph\, VT)\, Gracie Center (Bangor\, ME)\, Old Town School of Folk Music (Chicago\, IL)\, Seattle Folklore Society (Seattle\, WA) and more. They have taught workshops and masterclasses at Tufts University (Somerville\, MA)\, Celtic Arts Foundation (Mount Vernon\, WA) and Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddle School (Boulder Creek\, CA). With music that enlivens the human spirit\, Kalos brings warmth\, grit and exuberance to every performance.
